Agios Nikolaos, a charming town set on the Mirabello Bay and built close to the site of the ancient city of Lato, is named after Saint Nicholas, the patron of all sailors and of all of Greece. The town centre is built around the Lake Voulismeni, originally the fresh water lake, since 1870 is connected with the sea by the channel. The lake is 64 m deep and has circular shape. According to the mythology, the goddess Athena used to take her bath in this lake. In the town is very nice Archaeological Museum and the Folk Art Museum.
