Itanos

Itanos was a large port in ancient times. During Roman times the town acquired a special status for minting own coins. During the Byzantine period, the city developed on the site of a Hellenistic and Roman settlement. The remains of an Early Christian basilica and several Byzantine foundations still exist today.
